Our blood holds the complicated map to our very existence; the things we love, the shape of our face, the dominant traits passed down from our ancestors. Like a puzzle, genetics are the backbone of scientific construction. We exist under the microscope of human evaluation as does our fruits, vegetables and animals. Using the genetic code, we attempt to construct the product we desire to have instead of what is naturally there.
Genetic Modification is a body of work exploring the manipulation of genetics using the human face. I capture portraits of multiple people with varying ancestries and then physically cut the negatives before printing the result as a traditional silver gelatin print.
